33 people have been arrested in connection with theft of $45,000 by installing malicious online software onto the home computers of thousands of online casino players. The gang of computer whizzes broke into several people’s houses and installed DDoS or Distributed Denial of Service program on up to 11,000 computers across the country. Once installed, this software was able to hack into the hole card data of the victims and transmit it to the main computer of the gang. The gang then used this information to swindle thousands of dollars worth of cash from the victims.

Internet gaming is a huge industry in South Korea and The Cyber Terror Response Centre is constantly monitoring internet activities to safeguard citizens from skillful hackers. After the arrest the police department released information about the criminals in custody. They stated that the gang leaders were 29 to 30 years of age and so far the estimated amount that was stolen is about $45,000.

There are several people who are of the opinion that online poker is rigged or susceptible to cheats. But this latest bust by the Korean police has gone to prove to everyone that crime does pay and if there is internet corruption, the criminals will not get away with it.
