Spain has one of the biggest gambling markets in Europe after Germany, France and Italy. So it?s really sad to know that Spain has actually delayed its entry into the world of online casino games by six months. Spain had planned to open its markets with the onset of the New Year, but it looks like progress will be a little slower than what was expected.
The reason behind Spain?s delay was explained in an announcement last week, where it was stated that regulators required more time to review the license applications. Well the intentions of the country may be great but this will also mean that online gambling enthusiasts will have to wait until June 30 at least for the new online gambling regulations to be put into effect. The new gambling laws were actually passed in February 2011 and 61 operators had submitted applications before the December deadline. Some applicants include big players like Poker Stars, bwin.party, 888, Ladbrokers and Groupe Bernard Tapie who is completing the purchase of Full Tilt Poker. While the Spanish government sorts out business, players will just have to remain patient and hope for the best.
